Main Street Caucus Chair: House-Senate Compromise Needed to Deliver on Affordable Housing

March 13, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Republican Main Street Caucus (RMSC) Chair Rep. Mike Flood (R-Nebraska) issued a statement regarding following Senate passage of a housing policy package.

“Main Street stands with President Trump’s goal of lowering the cost of homeownership. For too many hardworking families, the American dream of owning a home is slipping away or already out of reach. That is why Main Street members supported the Housing for the 21st Century Act when it passed the House of Representatives 390-9. Since then, the Senate made significant substantive changes to the bill that deviate from the House version that work against the stated goals of the bill and have drawn significant opposition from groups that previously supported the package. The Senate changes warrant further negotiations between the two chambers to resolve the differences so we can finally send an affordable housing bill to the President’s desk that will make a difference for young homebuyers. Our caucus is committed to helping Americans buy their first home and delivering on President Trump’s affordability agenda – not stifling the free market and adding burdensome costs.”
